Day 37: Romans 1:20
Devotional
READ ROMANS 1:20
On a family ski trip to Colorado several years ago, I found myself riding the lift alone. During that time in my life, I was a busy mom with three busy teenagers, and moments alone were rare and welcome. It was a cold but beautiful day, and it was completely quiet—a stillness and silence that only comes from snow-covered landscapes. As I took in the vastness of the surrounding mountains and the deep blue of the expansive sky, a lyric from a Kari Jobe worship song stirred in my heart: “With all creation I sing, praise to the King of Kings. You are my everything, and I will adore you.”
There, alone on a ski lift in Crested Butte, Colorado, God reached into the busy life of a busy mom and reminded me of His glory through His creation. Romans 1:20 sums up my moment of worship perfectly: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.”
In this scripture, Paul speaks of the invisible qualities of God that are made visible to us through creation, through nature, through life.
I probably would have missed that moment had I been on that lift with someone else, or distracted by my phone, or even my own thoughts. Now, years later, that memory still lives in my mind as a reminder to slow down, get outside, get alone, and simply breathe in His creation. We can miss a lot of things if we’re too busy to look. In that moment and in many to follow, I’ve looked at creation and felt a closeness to the Creator. It still humbles me to view the world, sky, and space and know that the Creator longs for a relationship with me.

I have had similar moments in creation or walks alone. Great reminder to not only treasure those times but seek more of them. It’s hard to slow down sometimes to take in the beauty of God’s creation all around me. Needs to be done though.
