Day 40: Ecclesiastes 3:11
Devotional
READ ECCLESIASTES 3:11
When Tricia and I moved to Bologna, Italy with Cru (Agape Italia), it was to open a new work at the University of Bologna. It was a campus of 100,000 students with a reputation of being very open-minded with few who believed in God. As we engaged students and professors in spiritual conversations, we began to see a common thread. All of them were pursuing something beyond themselves.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 states that God has set eternity in the human heart. One writer stated it this way: “In every human soul is a God given awareness there is ‘something more’ than this transient world.” Every human life, uniquely created in the image of God, longs for something more than what we can see with our eyes. One professor told us that for him, the pursuit of knowledge was the essence of life, so to say that any philosophy had the answer was not worth pursuing. Whether he realized it or not, he was seeking after this idea of eternity—something his Creator had placed in his heart.
At Faith Bible Church, our mission statement is to build generations of Jesus followers who take grace to our world. Paul said it this way in 2 Corinthians 5:20: “Therefore, we are Ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us.” Wow ! Imagine that the God of the universe wants to make His appeal through you and me! As we go about our day, are we thinking intentionally about each person we meet having eternity placed in their hearts by God? Let’s pray that we will be mindful that we are His ambassadors, made in His image and restored by Christ to make Him known. As we walk in that mindset, we are able to see every opportunity as a divine appointment from the Lord. And we begin to see the people around us as precious lives, created to know the God of the universe and spend eternity in His presence.

Personal Reflection
- Do you find yourself connecting with those who do not know Christ?
- Do you feel equipped to share your story?
- How often do you pray intentionally for opportunities to connect with your neighbors?

Ambassadors of the creator of the world. Wow indeed. I want to represent Him well and engage with those who need to hear of His love and grace. Great challenge Jesse!
Why is it so hard to see every opportunity as a divine appointment from the Lord? Thank you for this great reminder that we are instruments of God’s Peace and his Representatives of His Truth and Love
“pray intentionally for opportunities to connect”. I’ve seen God answer that prayer in unexpected ways. But I sometimes struggle with choosing not to pray that prayer because Satan tries to convince me I don’t have time or I’m too tired to invest in such a connection. Thank you for the reminder of who and whose I am— God’s ambassador! What a privilege, honor and responsibility!
