Meet David Munson
My name is David Munson, and when I was a toddler, my family moved to the west side of Houston. For elementary school, my parents sent me to St. Jerome Catholic School even though we were not Catholic. While at Catholic school, as students, we attended Mass every Wednesday and attended the stations of the cross on Fridays around Easter time. At Catholic school, I was exposed to a lot of imagery about God and Jesus like statues and paintings of the crucifixion and the resurrection, the fall of man with the serpent in the garden, guardian angels protecting children, and plaques of the 10 commandments.
I have been a Christian as long as I can remember. I do not remember a time in which I did not believe in God and Jesus. Around 1st grade, in one of my earliest memories, I remember laying on the playground at recess watching clouds go by and thinking to God, ‘I want a relationship with you’. I also remember during Mass every week there would be the communion ceremony in which Priest preached that the bread was Jesus’ body and that the wine was Jesus’ blood. I remember during the stations of the cross service the Priest would go through the part of the Gospels from the time that Jesus was tried and given His cross and made His way to Golgotha to be crucified, and then buried and then Jesus rose from the dead. At some time and somewhere in all of this, the Holy Spirit made the Gospel clear to me and I put my faith in Jesus.
I am 50 years old now and I have lived over 40 years as a Christian, and God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit have always made it clear to me that They love me and They are here for me and that They have always wanted what was best for me even though I am a sinner and I do not deserve it and I have strayed away several times. During the many decades of being a Christian, I have had the opportunity to grow in the grace and knowledge of your Lord and savior Jesus Christ, have increased my prayer life and also increased in serving the Lord.
With great joy in my heart, I declare that Jesus is God, that He was born of a virgin and without sin, that He lived a life without sin, that He voluntarily died of the cross to save me from my sins, that He was buried, that He was resurrected on the third day, that He ascended and is at the right hand of God the Father and that He is coming back again.
I decided to get baptized at Faith Bible in October 2024, not as a matter of salvation, but as a matter of obedience. A few years ago, I heard a pastor say that "even though baptism is not a matter of salvation, it is a matter of obedience, and if you have time on this earth before you die, you should get baptized." I was baptized to show an outer expression of my person faith in Jesus Christ to others and to be obedient to the Lord.
