Meet David Unruh
God has helped me through challenges and blessed me greatly during my high school years. My favorite verse, Isaiah 41:10, has helped me through many of these challenges, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you; Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you, I will hold you up with My victorious right hand.”
Throughout high school, especially my junior and senior years, I have had to think about my future, where I was going to college, what type of carrier I want to pursue, and many other big decisions. In my mind, I was scared of the unknown; I didn’t like not knowing what to do or where to start. Even though I had the help of my parents and friends, I was still scared.
A major part of learning about my future was asking questions and talking to strangers about their life experiences. This was very scary for me. I was afraid of talking to people for fear of sounding stupid, getting rejected, or fumbling with my words. Amid uncertainty, Faith Student leaders and my friends encouraged my confidence in the Lord.
When I interviewed Eric, our Student Director, for some insight on life after college, he made me feel welcomed and what I had to say was important. When our Student Pastor Justin asked me to be on Faith Students Leadership Team, I was nervous, but this opportunity drew me out of my comfort zone and grew my trust in the Lord. In addition, I have talked to many others at Faith Bible who have graciously directed my career path.
The friends I made in Faith Students and basketball have also strengthen my faith during my high school years. I was blessed to play for a Christian basketball association for three years. Not only did it teach me great values like teamwork, hard work, discipline, and perseverance, but it showed me how to glorify God while playing. I made some amazing relationships with my teammates that I hope to have for years to come. I have a solid group of friends who love the Lord in Faith Students as well. I have been very blessed to have friends who lift up and support one another.
While high school is filled with many unknowns, my confidence in the Lord has grown through the grace and love of others.
